Doug Young has worked in professional entertainment for many years, training in musical theatre, juggling, magic, clowning, circus, and aerial arts. Doug has performed around the world from NYC to the Phillippines, included a performance at the palace in Marrakech, Morocco.

Flag dance, often referred to as flagging, is the spinning and waving of weighted flags in a rythmic fashion to music.

In this introductory class Doug will touch on the basics of flagging...holding the flag, getting it moving, and a variety of tricks and sequences. Flagging to different types of music and creating a short flagging performance piece.

This is a non-judgmental atmosphere where all levels are welcome.  Flags will be provided and no special equipment is needed. Clothes that you can move in are recommended. A variety of flags will be available for purchase after the class.

THIS WILL BE AWESOME FUN!

Special Workshop: J-Setting

J-Setting
with AndreZ
November 6th 8pm - 9pm

"If you like it then you
should come take a class in it".........The J-Sette Dance Style originated at Mississippi's Jackson State University. The Prancing Jaycettes were the female dance line of the infamous JSU marching band, "The Sonic Boom of the South." In 1970, Shirley Middleton, a former majorette, initiated the idea that the Jaycettes (later called the J-Settes) abandon their batons and begin dancing in formation. This dance is enjoying a "boom" of its own as popularized by Beyonce's "Single Ladies" music video.

Special Workshop: Feldenkrais

November 20th

7pm to 8pm

$15 suggested donation

Warning! Learning about the Feldenkrais Method® may be hazardous to traditional thinking about about your body.

Join us for a short introduction of the Feldenkrais Method followed by and Awareness Through Movement lesson. Lesson participants should be able to lie on the floor comfortably. Your body may become pleasantly relaxed, please bring a layer for warmth.

The Feldenkrais Method of Movement Education isn’t just about movement. It’s about moving without pain, breathing more fully and easily, having more energy and being able to do the things you love to do because you feel better.

Whether you sit at a computer all day, carry babies on your hip, play concert violin, compete for Olympic gold medals or breathe, the Feldenkrais Method of Movement Education can give you the means to take charge of your own improvement.

Find out how as Linda Natanagara leads us through the basics of this Method.

Linda Natanagara has an extensive background in movement and bodywork.  She trained professionally as a dancer at the Juilliard school and Mason Gross School of the Arts, as well as in the studios of Graham, Ailey and Limon. She has had her New York State License in massage therapy for 23 years and has been a Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitoner since 2003.

During her dance training, Linda Natanagara met a teacher who helped her understand that movement happens from the inside out - instead of being a shape in the mirror. Her love of movement combined with a curiosity for why people have persistent pain led her to become a Feldenkrais Practitioner in addition to her NYS license in Massage Therapy.
