We love dance and we exist to share our passion for movement with you. Asbury Park Dance and Yoga is pleased to provide the Jersey Shore with access to a training facility and professional faculty second to none! With more than 2,000 square feet of studio space, professional quality flooring, contemporary decor and historical architectural elements, APDAY provides the ideal environment for an inspiring and optimal dance and yoga experience. We try to limit all of our classes to no more than 10 students. Please register early.
Adults always welcome to "drop in" for classes.
Ballet/Pointe
Considered the cornerstone of all western dance, ballet is a must for any dancer wishing to accelerate their training goals. These classes combine high quality artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development. Pointe classes are by invitation only.
Belly Dance
Zarouhi's technique of instruction is based on Egyptian style of dance acquired from years of study with great masters. This dance form involves use of the entire body in harmony with music and emotional responses to musical sounds. Classes lead to flexibility, agility, stamina, grace and generally tone the body. Many aspects of the dance are introduced including isolations, interesting steps and combinations, transitions and later veil and zil work. Brief discussions of the origins, costumes and music are also covered . Everyone is encouraged to share this natural and beautifully flowing form of movement. It is also a wonderful way to celebrate and enjoy the beauty of being a woman....and men are also welcome to share!
Cabaret
A peek into the world of Jazz, Vaudville and Burlesque covering a variety of current and historical styles.
Capoeira
An Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, games, music, and dance. It was created in Brazil by slaves brought from Africa, especially from present day Angola some time after the 16th century. It was developed in the regions known as Bahia, Pernambuco and Rio de Janeiro. Participants form a roda, or circle, and take turns either playing musical instruments (such as the Berimbau), singing, or ritually sparring in pairs in the center of the circle.
Combo Classes for 3 - 8 year olds (Ballet, Tap, Creative Movement and Jazz)
These classes are divided into 2 30 minute sections or 3/4 15 minute sections . Students will build on the basics of Ballet and begin to learn the fundamentals of Jazz, Creative Movement and/or Tap. These are fun classes for beginners or students who have had under 5 years of previous dance class experience.
Hip Hop
In these classes students are introduced to the fundamentals of Hip hop dance and begin to explore a wide range of styles such as breaking, popping, locking, and other popular urban disciplines.
Jazz
in these classes students learn the basics of Jazz technique and build on those skills to develop maximum proficiency in the core discipline, including positions, turns, jumps, leaps and choreography.
Latin Ballroom
This beginners class will give students a broad overview of the most popular styles of Latin club and International styles. Bring a partner or come on your own and we will pair you up.
Modern Dance
An eclectic blend of classical modern dance technique (Graham, Limon, Horton) and contemporary movement principles. This class is designed to deepen basic understanding of the human body in motion and will give students the chance to explore new concepts and ideologies through movement.
Pre-Dance
A special class just for 2-3 year olds. This class will nurture the basic principles of controlled movement and teach your little one to move with confidence. The class incorporates games, props and sing a longs to teach little movers the basic building blocks of movement.
Shake Your Soul®
Shake Your Soul®/YogaDance is a cardiovascular movement that allows each participant to be more joyful, expressive and alive in their bodies! Dancing barefoot to a diverse variety of music, Shake Your Soul gradually takes you through dynamic movements that strengthen and energize the entire body while releasing tension! This “dance” is for every-BODY and is a refreshing approach to body-spirit fitness. Shake Your Soul classes offers people the perfect combination of being led in dynamic movements as well as opportunities to break out and express one’s natural movement and creativity; connect with your mind, body, and spirit in a creative and fun way that is not found in a traditional fitness class. Participants naturally find the confidence within to dance and enjoy the beat while in public!
Tap
These classes with multiple ability levels focus on tap fundamentals including basic tap steps, wings, cramp rolls, & pull backs.
Yoga
Jivamukti: Jivamukti means “liberation while living.” Jivamukti is a vinyasa style practice and classes can be quite physically intense. Each class has a theme, which is explored through yoga scripture, chanting, meditation, asana, pranayama, and music.
ISHTA: (the Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra and Ayurveda) in Sanskrit means "personal practice" Classes are playful, challenging and inspiring, focusing on breath, alignment and energetic flow leading one to greater joy, a more buoyant life and deep transformation.
Hatha: Traditional Hatha Yoga is a holistic yogic path, including moral disciplines, physical postures, purification procedures, poses, yogic breathing, and meditation.
Anusara: a modern school of hatha yoga grounded in a Tantric philosophy of intrinsic goodness. The emphasis of the school is on a set of "Universal Principles of Alignment" which underlie all postures, "heart opening" postures.
Family Yoga: Whether you are 3 or 33, yoga is good for you. APDAY is pleased to dedicate this time on saturday's to practicing with your loved ones. Bring your family, a mat and an open heart.
Zumba®
This class mixes body sculpting movements with dance steps derived from Latin club dances. The routines feature aerobic interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms. It targets areas such as the glutes, legs, arms, abdominals, and the heart.
